I have been called a D-grade celebrity sometimes. It is meant to be offensive, but hey, I don't really mind. You see, everyone wants to be A-grade, but in this world, A-grade means compromising and being fake sometimes, which is not my cup of tea.

The important thing is whether you are real or not, not whether the media considers you A-grade or D-grade.

My Ideals for the New Culture

We are here to build a New culture, an alternative to the meaningless, politically correct and apolitical mainstream culture, and a rival to the conservative culture (often self-described as 'contemporary Christian' in the West and by their respective native religions in other places).

(Probably especially for someone like me,) Everything we say and do potentially becomes part of that culture, and we must be mindful of this at all times. We must keep in mind the spirit of interfaith cooperation and religious inclusivism being the core of our culture. We must remember that inclusive family values are the bedrock of our culture.

We must strive to maintain a culture of clean living within the community of the few committed to promoting this culture. Clean living values and strong families are the bedrock for any civilisation and culture, and it is my personal belief that there is no other way. We must do this better than all our rivals, and therefore have stricter standards for moral behaviour than all of them, the religious right included (that's why I am often very critical of sexual immorality more so than many other people). Meanwhile, we must uphold the very liberal principles that we should always defend, even if they seem somewhat tolerant of decadent behaviour - they key is to keep ourselves away from it, not to persecute those involved in it. The conservatives will then challenge us that this lets decadent behaviour continue, but then we will remember that persecution does nothing (like the prohibition of alcohol, an ideal that never worked) and we need to change hearts and minds instead. (I do believe that alcohol prohibition will work one day, when things are more ideal).

It is my prediction that we will eventually win over enough (but not all of) the conservatives and replace them as the dominant force outside the mainstream. That should be our first goal. Then we would need to start finishing the task of winning over the hearts and minds of people to our causes, including ending poverty, ending abortion and equality for all. From that point on the world will really change.

For the Record: Opening a Third Front in the Cultural Wars? Not Me.

Several sources (like this one) have been saying that I am trying to open a third front on the cultural wars. This is simply not true. My idea is actually to help end the cultural wars by showing that a freedom-for-all community can suit everybody, traditionalists included.

The Marriage Equality Platform

Now everybody who has been reading this should know that marriage equality is one of my pet causes - perhaps the number one cause. But whilst getting your voice heard out there in debates does help, to achieve marriage equality as a mainstream reality globally still seems pretty difficult at this stage. Hence we need a bit more strategy. And here are some strategies I propose:

1) Aim for Family Equality first if Marriage Equality is politically difficult. Family equality includes equal access to fertility treatment, equal adoption rights, and equal financial treatment. After all, one big benefit of marriage equality is the recognition it gives to gay and lesbian families, and the boost it gives to pro-family gay people over their family-skeptical counterparts.

2) Support norms of monogamy and lifelong commitment in the gay and lesbian community. One of the biggest hurdles to marriage equality are the gay and lesbian people who are not keen on lifelong monogamy, making the community look equivocal to commitment. Whilst I support the freedom of anybody to do anything that does not hurt anybody else, I do believe in encouraging a scenario that pro-commitment types are the mainstream of every sub-cultural group, especially in the one where marriage rights are being fought over across the world. This will make marriage equality just a bit more convincing for more people, believe me.

3) Uphold the value of commitment well beyond current social norms. It is the current breakdown of commitment that has given fuel to conservatism's fear-based approach. The only way to counter this is to help restore commitment and stability in our communities by being pro-commitment in every way we can. That is, to oppose serial monogamy and all types of polyamoury becoming mainstreamly acceptable on a social scale (whilst still conservatively tolerating the odd individual that chooses this lifestyle to uphold the spirit of tolerance).

4) Support marriage boycotters well. They are going to be very important in this fight across the world. For example, put pressure on governments to give equal rights to cohabiting common-law couples (as in Australia vs the USA), and create and support alternative social institutions that are easy to join and give the same level of commitment (e.g. Permarriage as I have previously suggested). These measures will make it easier for heterosexual marriage boycotters to join the fight.

TaraElla's Movement: No to Impaired Religion

This is going to be controversial, but let me say this for the record: I do believe that religions that 1) want other great faiths to crumble and/or 2) stand in the way of equality of humankind are impaired. I further believe that these religions are impaired because of the people who have been interpreting it through the centuries, not because of the original divine inspirations that started them. These religions were originally as good as any other, but their current interpretation is impaired. I do wish their restoration to the unimpaired state.

That said, I seriously don't want impaired religion to have any part to play in my life and the (sub)cultures that I live in. I seriously don't want impaired religion to have any part to play in my family. And I do wish to help create (sub)cultures that are free of the influence of impaired religion.

I think everyone out there agrees that country music, particularly the American form, needs more support from the liberals lest conservatives become able to politically control what singers can publicly say.

Take the Dixie Chicks for example, first grade fine musicians, now ruined because the conservative country stations won't play them anymore. Or even take Carrie Underwood, who was criticized for supporting an anti-hunting group, as if being kind to animals were wrong (we all know her track record of supporting kindness to animals - I certainly can' t match that myself personally).

And in case you think country music isn't worth your time - just try to listen to some. It's much more worth listening to than the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, I believe.
